MPs set to vote on motion to allow snap election

British MPs will vote today on a motion to allow a snap general election to be held on June 8th.

Prime Minister Theresa May made the surprise announcement that she was seeking an early ballot Tuesday morning.  However two-thirds of  lawmakers first need to pass a motion resetting the clock on legislation which says an election should only be held every five years.

The opposition Labour party have said they will support the measure so it is expected to pass.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd says Prime Minister Theresa May is hoping to increase her majority in parliament, to strengthen her hand when it comes to Brexit negotiations with European Union leaders.
