Australian research says tobacco plain packaging a success

In Australia, the Cochrane review into tobacco plain packaging has been released.
This follows the introduction of the Tobacco Plain Packaging Act 2011 introduced by Julia Gillard's government, and appears to back the original theory that tobacco plain packaging may reduce the prevalence of smoking.
The review indicates the conclusions are supported by survey data including two national population studies that show a marked reduction in adult smoking prevalence since the law was passed.
Australia's Cancer Council CEO Todd Harper has welcomed the review.
