The European Court of Justice backs Belgium's right to refuse humanitarian visas

The European Court of Justice has ruled that EU member states are not obliged to issue humanitarian visas to asylum seekers who may be in danger of persecution.

The ruling was delivered in the case of a visa application from a Syrian family refused by the Belgian government
