Retired U.S. General James "mad dog" Mattis is prioritizing Russia in his confirmation hearings to become the next U.S. Defence Secretary.
His nomination faces a specific challenge because he has not met the requirement that a candidate be retired from the U.S. military for more than seven years.
He retired in 2013 and his nickname 'mad dog' is due to some of the statements he made during the Bush Administration's war in Iraq.
Now he is telling the Senate Armed Services Committee, the top challenge is Russia.
