French presidential frontrunner Francois Fillon is under growing pressure over revelations he paid his wife 500,000 euros as a parliamentary assistant - after prosecutors opened an investigation into claims she was paid for doing nothing.
Fillon has a reputation for being clean of corruption - saying in a recent speech that the president should be irreproachable.
