Calls for a ceasefire in Aleppo

The U.S. is backing calls by the opposition and by the international community for a ceasefire to allow civilians to flee the fighting in Aleppo.

The Assad regime has ruled out a possible ceasefire, with the Russians calling the rebels "terrorists."

In Washington, the Obama administration is sticking to its call for a ceasefire, with U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Mark Toner offering this assessment:

IN: "It has always...
OUT: ...falling apart."
