State department ready for Trump, monitoring Philippines

Donald Trump's transition team has made no contact with the US State Department yet, as the maverick billionaire prepares to take control of the United States in two months' time.

State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner said the department were ready for Mr Trump's team.

Philippine law enforcement officials have filed complaints against a senator and former minister who's been critical of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Senator Leila de Lima has been trying for years to link Duterte to involvement in large numbers of drug killings when he was mayor of the town of Davao.

Now Senator Lima faces complaints of bribery, graft and drug offences

State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner said the US was monitoring the situation.
