US suggests Russia has violated UN resolution

Lawyers at the U.S. State Department are reviewing whether Russia has violated United Nations resolutions by launching bombing runs into Syria from Iranian air bases.

U.N. Security Council resolution 2231 prohibits the supply, sale and transfer of combat aircraft to Iran, but Moscow says it is using its own aircraft, with Tehran's permission to take off from an Iranian airbase.

At the U.S. State Department, deputy spokesman Mark Toner said Russia is exacerbating the problems in Syria and Washington is looking into possible violations.
