ITALY QUAKE TOLL UP TO 247

At least 247 people are now known to have died in the earthquake which struck central Italy on Wednesday.

Dozens more are feared still trapped or dead in the towns of Amatrice, Accumoli and Pescara del Tronto.

Thousands of rescuers are trying to move rubble and debris in the mountainous region.

The 6.2 magnitude quake hit 100 km north east of the capital Rome.
