EU foreign policy chief calls on Turkey to uphold rule of law following failed coup attempt

Europe's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has called on Turkey to maintain rule of law in the wake of the failed coup attempt.

The European Union has condemned the coup but suggestions that the death penalty could be reintroduced have raised concerns internationally.

A deal between the EU and Turkey in dealing with the migrant crisis has held to slow down the numbers of people crossing the mediterranean from Turkey to Greece and Turkey is seen as a key played in the fight against the so-called Islamic State group.

Federica Mogherini, the EU's foreign policy chief says Turkey must defend rule of law in the wake of the attempted coup.
