Violent clashes between protestors and the Police have continued into a second day.
Demonstrators have barricaded roads and are burning tires in the South African capital Pretoria.
Unrest started after an announcement was made to replace the mayoral candidate chosen by the ruling African National Congress- the ANC.
The decision to replace the candidate was not immediately made public.
But the ANC is worried about losing the Tshwane municipality seat to the opposition.
This has caused divisions within the governing ANC and the government has called for talks.
South Africa will be holding elections for mayors and local councillors Aug 3.
