Playwright Peter Shaffer of Equus and Amadeus fame, dead at 90

Sir Peter Shaffer, one of Britain's best-known playwrights, has died at the age of 90 after a short illness.


His family says he passed away in Ireland early on Monday morning.


His work includes Amadeus, a drama about the confrontation between the composers Mozart and Salieri which was turned into an Oscar-winning film.


He also wrote Equus and The Royal Hunt of the Sun.


Speaking in 2012, he told an interviewer that he was intrigued by the process of creating drama.
