Obama: "special relationship" will endure

US President Barack Obama has promised that the "special relationship" between the US and UK will endure, following the UK's vote to leave the European Union.

During a speech in California, President Obama said he spoke Friday with both UK Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who say they're committed to making the transition as smooth as possible.

Mr Obama was not in favor of the so-called "Brexit".

But he says the US will remain strong partners with both the UK and the EU.
