Obama bashes Trump's Muslim immigration ban; calls for increase in gun control

US President Barack Obama has blasted Donald Trump's plan to bar Muslims from immigrating to the US, calling it dangerous, sloppy, and un-American.

He said proposals like Mr Trump's are likely to increase the problem of radicalization, by fueling the notion that the US government is anti-Muslim.

He said America was founded on the values of pluralism and freedom of religion.

He also addressed Donald's Trump continuing calls for the President to use the term "radical Islam" when describing foreign extremists.

Barack Obama said he purposefully does not use that term, because it would imply the US is fighting against the religion of Islam, rather than just the terrorists who claim identify with it.
