No change for US policy on Syria despite dissent

U.S. President Barack Obama is unlikely to change course on Syria, despite a dissent from top American diplomats.

A "dissent cable" signed by dozens of U.S. diplomats was published last week after being leaked to reporters.

In the cable, the diplomats call for a more agressive approach, and further criticism of White House policy on Syria.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest says, the current goal is to get help to Syrian civilians and keep the peace from failing.

IN: "The cessation...
OUT: ...badly needed it."

The White House says dissent is healthy.

But spokesman Josh Earnest says that so far, none of the proposals put forth by the group of diplomats is original or workable, least of all increased military action by U.S. forces.

IN: "it's hard...
OUT: ...concerned about."
