FRANCE STANDOFF CONTINUES

There's no sign of a standoff ending between French unions and the government over labour reforms.

On Thursday dozens of arrests were made in Paris and other cities as protesters took to the streets.

Strikes have affected nuclear power production, transport hubs, and roads and bridges have been blockaded.

The government has suggested it could modify its reform proposals, but insists it won't back down.

Peter Allen in Paris says the situation could get worse before it gets better.
