US tech giants Apple, Facebook, Google, Twitter, Microsoft and Yahoo
have for the first time jointly set out concerns over the UK's
Investigatory Powers Bill, pushing for more clarity on issues like
encryption and a better framework for demands from different
countries. The tech firms say the UK legislation, which aims to update
laws on how far police and government can go when collecting data, is
important to get right because it could set a precedent for the US.
