A major police operation to find the mastermind of the Paris bombings has come to an end with two suspected terrorists dead and seven people arrested in the French capital.
Armed police targeted an apartment in the Saint-Denis area of Paris in the early hours of the morning after intelligence suggested Abdelhamid Abaaoud might be there. His whereabouts remains unknown.
The latest events have strengthened the resolve of European allies in the fight against the Islamic State. From London, Catherine Drew reports.
