Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow's goal in Syria campaign was to "stabilise the legitimate authority" of the Syrian President and "create conditions for a political compromise". This is a new line in Moscow's rhetoric in defense of its airstrikes which earlier it claimed were part of its fight against the Islamic State terrorists operating in Syria.
