US retail sales may pause interest rate rise

The latest figures for Retail Sales in the US suggest a slowing of
consumer spending.

It means the Federal Reserve may hold back in raising interest rates,
for the first time in nine years, when it meets later this month.

Our correspondent Nick Harper in New York says the results were below
expectations.
