US confirms death of Khorasan official death

The White House is confirming that an American airstrike lead to the death of one of the highest-ranking leaders of the Khorasan Group, a Saudi national also known as Sanafi al-Nasr.

The Khorasan Group had a goal of carrying out terrorist attacks in the U.S. or Europe, with ties to the al-Nusra Front, the Syrian group with allied to al Qaeda.

At the White House, spokesman Josh Earnest noted this is one example of how the U.S. and allied air campaign is succeeding in northern Syria.

At the same time, the White House spokesman noted that the U.S. is moving forward with its goals of attacking the Islamic State, while the Russians are not reporting the same success.
