Democratic Debate A Chance For Also-Rans To Shine

[PREVIEW THAT WILL HOLD TO RUN DURING DEBATE ITSELF]

The five candidates hoping to get the US Democratic party's nomination to run for President in 2016 are set to start/have begun [delete as appropriate] their first televised debate in Las Vegas.

It's mainly a showdown between the two best known candidates, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders - with Hillary still well ahead in the latest polls.

But, as our US correspondent Lorna Shaddick explains, the three other participants are hoping to use the event to raise their profiles.
