US urges reform as thousands flee Myanmar


The U.S. is urging the government of Myanmar to focus on reform as thousands of ethnic minorities, including Rohingya Muslims piling into rickety fishing vessels as they flee persecution.

After years of isolation, Myanmar's government has been increasingly engaged with the international community, although questions remain about human rights in the authoritarian regime.

With concerns rising about the flotilla of refugees, Principal Deputy White House spokesman Eric Schultz says their concerns need to be addressed.
