US Senate Faces Battle Over PATRIOT Act Renewal


With just days left until the US PATRIOT Act is set to expire, Republicans in the Senate are still deeply divided about its future.

The Act, brought in after 9/11, includes a controversial provision allowing spy agencies to collect the metadata of Americans' phone conversations - first revealed by Edward Snowden. 

Our Washington correspondent Lorna Shaddick says Senators don't agree on whether to keep that programme.
