SERVICES IN ARMENIA AND TURKEY MARK MASS KILLINGS AND GALLIPOLI

Armenia has been marking the 100th anniversary of the start of mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks.

The country says as many as 1.5 million Armenian Christians were killed.

Turkey disputes that number and also objects to the killings being described as 'genocide'.

The French and Russian Presidents have been in Armenia's capital Yerevan for the commemorations.

Turkey, meanwhile, has been hosting events to mark the start of the Battle of Gallipoli during World War One, 100 years ago.

The Gallipoli campaign led to over 100 000 allied deaths - including about 10 000 from New Zealand and Australian forces.

Britain's Prince Charles is attending Gallipoli events in Turkey along with dignitaries from Australia, New Zealand and Turkey.
