U.S. President Barack Obama has condemned so-called conversion therapies designed to "repair" gay, lesbian and transgender youth.
In the statement – a response to an online petition - he said the overwhelming scientific evidence demonstrates that the practice is neither medically nor ethically appropriate and can cause substantial harm.
