Groups say most US companies fail to disclose use of 'conflict minerals'

Most American companies are failing to find out and disclose whether they're using so-called 'conflict minerals' from central Africa, as required by US law, according to two leading human rights groups.

Amnesty International and Global Witness based their findings on reports submitted to regulators by 100 public companies - some of them household names.

The conclusion is that nearly 80 percent of the firms are falling short of what the groups deem to be the minimum requirements of the legislation.
