Ban Ki-moon urges more help for Mediterranean migrants

The United Nations Secretary-General has said the Mediterranean is fast becoming a "sea of misery" following news of more migrant boats capsizing.

Ban Ki-moon is calling on the EU to step up efforts to help migrants, after it scaled back its rescue response last year.

In the past week hundreds have died trying to cross the sea to Europe, fleeing violence and poverty in Africa and the Middle East.

Ban Ki-moon said the whole world should be take heed.
