Two separate sieges continue in Paris as police probe connections

Police in Paris are trying to resolve two hostage situations that now appear to be linked.

Officials say two people holding hostages in a kosher supermarket in the center of the city now say they will kill their captives, unless police allow the gunmen who carried out the Charlie Hebdo massacre earlier this week to go free.

Those two men are surrounded at a print works north of the city.

The city authorities in Paris have ordered all businesses in a predominantly Jewish part of the city to close, in a bid to protect them against any further attacks.

The hostage-takers at the kosher supermarket are believed to be connected with the Kouachi brothers wanted for the Charlie Hebdo shootings.

Former Scotland Yard hostage negotiator Roy Ramm says the French authorities are now facing a major challenge.
