Legendary blues singer Joe Cocker dead at 70

Legendary blues singer Joe Cocker has died of lung cancer in Colorado at the age of 70.

Born in the British city of Sheffield, he'll be best remembered for his cover of the Beatles classic "A Little Help from My Friends", and also hits including "Up Where We Belong" and "You Are So Beautiful".

His trademark gravely voice won him fans worldwide.

He had a life beset by trouble with drugs and alcohol, and squandered much of his early success financially.

Ten years ago, he told Dutch television that he was lucky to bounce back.
