White House resists travel ban response to Ebola outbreak

The White House is resisting calls to ban travelers from ebola-affected areas of West Africa from entering the United States.

The Obama administration is under pressure from political opponents - and even some allies - to impose stricter travel restrictions in response to the outbreak.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest says the US president's view remains that a ban would actually put Americans at greater risk.

But Mr Earnest also said that President Obama is not "philosophically opposed" to a ban, if circumstances were to change.
