US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey have been talking about the failed attempt to rescue journalist James Foley, and about America's long term strategy in tackling the Islamic State terror group.
But both men insisted there would be no 'mission creep' regarding American involvement on the ground in the Middle East.
Mr Hagel also said all at the Department of Defence regretted the mission to save James Foley wasn't successful:
