New record on Wall Street with S&P topping 2,000

A strong start to the week for the United States stock market saw the
S&P 500 index top 2,000 for the first time.

This move into record gains is largely being pushed by company merger
deals and news that further monetary stimulus programs could be
introduced in Europe.
