Japanese mafia boss pleads guilty to trafficking nuclear materials

US authorities say a member of Japan's criminal underworld has pleaded guilty to trafficking nuclear materials from Myanmar.

60-year-old Takeshi Ebisawa also pleaded guilty to international narcotics trafficking and weapons charges.

Wildfires are continuing to rage through Los Angeles, with tens of
thousands of residents forced to evacuate.

At least five people have died so far, with the fires spreading at an
unprecedented pace.

It's now the largest fire in the city's history.

UN calls for more aid for Syria humanitarian efforts

The United Nations says more funding is needed to aid its efforts in Syria.


The UN Security Council heard on Wednesday that close to 13 million people are facing acute food insecurity. 


This comes a month after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, which had ruled the country since 1971.

Massive wildfires rip through multiple LA suburbs

US Vice-President Kamala Harris says the White House will ensure "no community has to respond alone" to several devastating and deadly wildfires still raging around the suburbs of Los Angeles.

Rescue efforts under way after earthquake in Tibet kills more than 120

Fmr US Pres Carter lying in state in Washington DC

The American public can now pay their respects to former US President Jimmy Carter as he lies in state after passing away late last year, aged 100.


His remains were flown on Tuesday from his home state of Georgia to the United States Capitol, with a horse-drawn caisson hearse carrying his casket down the snowy streets of Washington DC.
