US finishes building floating pier near Gaza to help deliver aid

The United States military has finished building a large floating pier off the coast of Gaza in an attempt to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in the war-torn strip. 


The plan — first announced by President Joe Biden two months ago — will see ships carry aid from the Mediterranean island of Cyprus to a dock in the sea, then transferred on boats to a port and onto lorries for distribution.


It was supposed to be operational weeks ago, but construction was fraught with logistical, weather and security challenges.

Pope Francis hosts global mayors for climate change conference


Mayors of global cities including London, Paris and Boston are highlighting the "urgent need for action" in order to hit climate change goals.

FICO 'NO LONGER IN LIFE THREATENING SITUATION'

China vows to carry out countermeatures against a civililian-led Philippine fleet in disputed waters

Barge collides with Pelican Island Bridge in Galveston, TX

A barge collided with a bridge in Galveston, Texas Wednesday morning - causing part of the Pelican Island Bridge to break off. An oil spill has also been detected, but at this point, no injuries have been reported. Toni Waterman has more.

US inflation eased in April, according to new CPI figures

US inflation eased slightly last month, according to new data released Wednesday.


The consumer price index, which measures changes in price for a basket of goods and services, increased 0.3% in April - less than estimates.
