Four months in jail for Navarro found guilty of contempt of U.S. Congress


Peter Navarro, long-time trade advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump, was sentenced to four months in jail on Thursday.

He'd been found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress for not appearing at a January 6th committee hearing.

US set to execute prisoner by nitrogen gas for first time

Alabama is set to become the first US state to use nitrogen gas to execute a prisoner on death row.


It will be the second time the state has tried to execute Kenneth Smith - after a lethal injection failed in 2022.


Smith was convicted for his role in a 1988 murder for hire plot.

US GDP smashes expectations

Donald Trump in NY court over defamation case

Killings in Haiti double in 2023

Haiti remains plagued by violence due to an unprecedented surge in
kidnappings, rapes and other crimes committed by armed gangs.
That's the word from the United Nations Special Representative of the
Secretary-General for Haiti.
According to the UN, the number of people killed has doubled compared
to the previous year and the need for additional security in Haiti is

Pakistan condemns consecration of Hindu Temple

Luis Rubiales set to go on trial over Jenni Hermoso kiss

Death sentence given for Kyoto animation studio arson

A court in Japan has sentenced to death the man responsible for the 2019 arson of an animation studio that killed 36 people.

US Supreme Court declines to stop nitrogen gas execution in Alabama

The US Supreme Court says it will not intervene to halt the execution of a convicted murderer in Alabama who is due to become the first inmate to be put to death with nitrogen gas.


Kenneth Smith is due to be executed on Thursday, after an earlier attempt to put him to death was botched in 2022.
