Biden hopes Israel-Hamas pause can be extended

US President Biden is calling for the four-day Israel-Hamas pause in
fighting to be extended to allow for the release of more hostages.

He spoke to reporters to confirm a four-year American girl was one of
the 17 hostages set free on Sunday.

UN warns of "famine" in Gaza

The UN World Food Program is warning Gaza may be on the "brink of famine".


The WFP's Executive Director Cindy McCain confirmed that the UN has managed to feed more than 110,000 people in Gaza since the pause in the fighting. 


But she warned that much more help was still needed. 


Speaking to CBS McCain also said other countries needed to help support the agency's efforts.

Hamas releases 17 hostages in third daily release

Hamas released 17 hostages on Sunday, including a four-year-old American girl.

It was the third daily release of hostages, with the fourth and final
set of prisoners expected to be set free on Monday.

Israel in turn released 39 Palestinians.

However, as Mia Alberti in Lebanon reports the pause in fighting could
be extended beyond the current four-day agreement.

Inflation again to dominate in week ahead [PREVIEW]

Inflation will be in focus on Wall Street again this week with the
release of personal consumption expenditures data due out on Thursday.

A number of Federal Reserve members are also expected to speak and
traders will be looking for clues on when the Central Bank plans to

UK Conservative Party Receives Poll Boost After Tax Cuts

The UK's governing Conservative Party has received a boost in the polls following tax cuts announced in the Autumn Statement. 


According to polling by YouGov for The Times newspaper, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt's decision to announce broad tax-cuts ahead of a likely general election next year, has seen the Tory Party climb 4 points in the polls. 


But the opposition Labour Party remains firmly ahead, and some economists are taking a more critical view of the statement's tax-cuts.

Multiple fatal crashes over the Thanksgiving holidays


U.S. first responders dealt with at least 14 road deaths in the state of Georgia on Thursday, and another involving four fatalities in California.

The crashes happened as people were travelling to see loved ones over the holidays.

U.S. hostages not likely to be among those freed by Hamas on Friday

White House officials are monitoring the transfer of hostages out of Gaza in real time - and are hopeful a first successful day will help the subsequent release of people held by Hamas.

13 Israelis,10 Thai and 1 Filipino nationals are part of the first group being released  - in exchange for 39 Palestinians. U.S. citizens are not expected to be in the first group.
