VOLKSWAGEN FACTORIES HIT BY IT OUTAGE

Europe's biggest carmaker has been hit by a major IT outage, causing factories to grind to a halt overnight. 

Volkswagen said production was beginning to return to normal by Thursday morning, adding that at this stage, there's no indication the outage was caused by external influences.

GOP candidates spar in debate

Candidates squaring off to be the nominee for US President have clashed with each other on immigration, healthcare and the economy during the Republican Party's second debate, as they vie to catch frontrunner Donald Trump in the polls.

Seven hopefuls took to the stage in California on Wednesday evening, but the former President was notably absent, instead courting voters in the state of Michigan where thousands of American auto-workers remain on strike. 

During his speech, Mr Trump dunked on his Republican opponents, whilst they condemned him for being "missing in action" and ducking the debate again.

UN calls for more funding for Pakistan after floods
