Idalia makes landfall in Florida

Hurricane Idalia has made landfall in the US state of Florida bringing
with it flooding and winds of 125 miles an hour.

The storm strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane before making
landfall on Wednesday morning.

Officials are warning about life-threatening storm surges of 16 feet
as seawater is pushed inland from coastal areas.

More than 250,000 people are already without power and almost 1000
flights have been canceled.

Florida residents warned over approaching hurricane Idalia

The US disaster management agency is warning residents in Florida to
heed warnings about the approaching hurricane.

Idalia is expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast on Wednesday
morning in an area that has not experienced a major hurricane since
the 1800s.

Forecasters are predicting 12 foot storm surges, with Idalia
strengthening to a Category 3 storm.

The director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA,
Deanna Criswell says she's stationed teams throughout Florida, Georgia
and South Carolina.

Biden administration targets high prescription drug costs

American detained in Russia seen in rare footage

US citizen Paul Whelan, who is imprisoned in Russia on espionage charges, has made a rare appearance in a video broadcast.
