Nigeria Closes Universities Ahead of Election

The Nigerian government has ordered the closure of all universities in the country from February 22nd to March 14th ahead of its general election from February 25th.

Russian missiles strike Ukrainian city 17 times

Officials in Zaporizhzhia say the Ukrainian city was stuck by missiles 17 times early on Friday morning.

20 000 DEAD IN QUAKES

Over 20 000 people are now known to have died in Turkey and Syria following Monday's earthquakes.

The UK is building an on-the-ground emergency field hospital in Turkey to treat those critically injured.

Many survivors have now spent four days in freezing conditions without shelter, water and food.

After a strong start on Wall Street, US markets closed trading down on Thursday.


Warnings of more rate hikes by the Federal Reserve continued to spook markets, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq took a hit after an AI demo went wrong.

Earthquake death toll passes 20,000

The death toll from the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria has now passed
20,000 people.

Rescue operations in towns and cities in both countries are now
continuing into the fourth night since Monday's deadly earthquake.

Earlier, six lorries carrying UN supplies managed to cross the border
from Turkiye into Syria - the first convoy of international aid that
has been able to enter the country.

US says Chinese balloon capable of collecting communications data

The Chinese balloon that flew above the U.S. for eight days was capable of collecting communication signals according to the US State Department. 


It says it was part of a fleet directed by the Chinese military that had flown over more than 40 countries across five continents.

Zelenksy pushes for swift EU accession at Brussels summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used a visit to Brussels to push for a speedy accession to the European Union. 

Ukraine was granted EU candidate status in 2022 and Zelensky hopes formal talks on membership of the bloc can start this year.

Twitter users unable to tweet during outage

Twitter users were unable to post messages on Wednesday, and were told they had reached their daily limit - even if they had not sent any Tweets that day.


The social media platform experienced technical issues for around 90 minutes, forcing people to use scheduling tools instead.

Ukraine's President in Brussels pushing for more military aid, faster EU accession


Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky is in Brussels to urge EU leaders to provide more military aid for his country's armed forces.

He's also calling for Ukraine's application to join the bloc to be sped up.

Zelensky visited London and Paris on Wednesday, as the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion approaches later this month.
