India's ten-day quarantine for UK nationals comes into force

8 dead as farmers' protest turns violent in India

At least eight people have been killed in northern India after clashes broke out at a farmers' protest.

Farmers have been protesting for nearly a year now against three new laws that aim to bring in private investment to the sector.

Farmers want the law scrapped but the government has refused on the grounds that the legislation will bring in much needed reform to the sector.

Pandora Papers' release surface accusations of financial irregularities among many world leaders

In other news….a massive leak of financial documents has raised fresh questions about the financial activities of some of the world's richest men and women.


The so-called Pandora Papers were simultaneously published by several news organizations on Sunday and expose allegedly secret financial dealings by the King of Jordan, Tony and Cheri Blair, and President Vladimir Putin.

Democrats: October 31st new target for passage of Biden's domestic agenda

Top Democrats say they now hope President Biden's two key pieces of domestic legislation can pass in Congress by the end of this month.


Last week's efforts failed, despite the President's personal visit to Capitol Hill to urge Democrats to unite around his 1.2 trillion dollar infrastructure deal and a much larger spending measure.


Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois says more time is needed to pull the bills over the finishing line.

India's western coast braces itself for another cyclone brewing in the Arabian Sea

The remnants of Cyclone Gulab - which battered India's eastern coast last week, are moving west towards the Arabian Sea.

Though Gulab weakened into a low-pressure system, the Indian Meteorological Department says the residue intensified into another cyclonic storm on Friday, and is likely to further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Saturday.

GERMAN RESEARCHERS ANNOUNCE CANCER VACCINE TRIALS

German researchers say they have started phase 2 trials of a new cancer vaccine. 

The research is being led by pharmaceutical company BioNTech - the same firm behind the successful Covid-19 vaccine developed in partnership with pfizer. 

It's new vaccine trials will target colorectal cancer- the second deadliest cancer worldwide, which commonly affects the bowel, colon and rectum.
