Fourth day of Canary Islands volcano eruption


Lava is still pouring out of an active volcano in the Canary Islands off the coast of west Africa.

It started erupting on Sunday but, so far, no fatalities have been reported on the Spanish-governed island of La Palma.

Earthquake in Melbourne damages buildings and is felt 100kms away

One of Australia's largest earthquakes in recent years has left buildings damaged in the city of Melbourne, although there have been no reports of casualties. 


The magnitude six quake was felt as far as South Australia and New South Wales, many hundreds of kilometres away from the epicentre of Mansfield in north-east Victoria.


Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who's currently in the US for the UN General Assembly, called the event "rare" yet "disturbing." 


But Simon Love, a reporter for 10 NewsFirst in Melbourne, is relieved that it did not turn out worse.

REBEL TRAINER ARRESTED

UK ACTS TO ATTEMPT TO KEEP FOOD SUPPLIES MOVING

The UK government's struck a deal to restart a carbon dioxide production plant in an attempt to avoid further shortages of goods and food.

American owned CF Fertilisers - which supplies most of the CO2 used in food production - had halted work due to rising wholesale gas prices. 


It was causing concern over possible food shortages in supermarkets.

The deal could cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars, but Environment Secretary George Eustice says it was important to strike.

Anti-vaccination protesters blasted by Australia's Union

On a day in which Melbourne was shaken by an earthquake, the Victorian secretary of Australias biggest Union, the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union John Setka has condemned members who took part in the violent anti-vaccination protests on Tuesday.


Approximately 2,000 protestors took part in the protest that began outside the unions Melbourne offices, before marching on parliament and then on to the Westgate bridge where traffic was stopped for two hours.

Hundreds of Ford workers in India protest over planned factory closure
