Macron defends health pass after divisive measure gets final approval

France's Constitutional Council has approved the extension of the Covid-19 health pass which proves that a person has been vaccinated or had recently tested negative for coronavirus.

From August 9, the pass will be mandatory at cafes, restaurants, hospitals and on long-distance trains.

Australia – Coronavirus breaking records as protests turn violent

With another record breaking number of Delta variant infections recorded in the state of New South Wales and anti-lockdown protests turning violent in Victoria, Australia's coronavirus crisis is deepening.


New South Wales recorded 291 new Covid 19 infections in the past 24 hours and a 60 year old woman died after contracting the virus from an employee at Liverpool Hospital.

Hong Kong activists call for more US support

Democracy activists in Hong Kong are welcoming a move from the Biden administration to extend the visas of Hong Kongers living in the US. But they're calling on the White House to do more to pressure Beijing over what they say is a crackdown on public freedoms in the city.

IOC cancels accreditation of two Belarusian coaches

The International Olympic Committee has revoked the accreditation of two Belarusian coaches amid an investigation into alleged pressure on an athlete. Sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya says they tried to force her to return home after she openly criticised her country's sporting officials.

Richard Trumka, America's leading trade union leader, dead at 72

America's most prominent trade union leader, Richard Trumka, has died of a reported heart attack at the age of 72.


He led the AFL-CIO, the largest federation of unions in the United States, for more than a decade.


The organization represents more than 12 million workers in the United States, and Mr. Trumka was a close ally of President Joe Biden.


The news of his death was announced on the floor of the US Senate by Majority Leader Charles Schumer.

Record haul of pangolin scales seized in Nigeria, foreign nationals arrested


Authorities in Nigeria have seized a historic quantity of animal parts including large chunks of pangolin scales and elephant tusks which were on their way to south east Asia.
