Nasdaq turns negative for the year after another day of losses

It was another bad day for the U.S. stock market Thursday with the
Nasdaq turning negative on the year.

This comes as the chair of the Federal Reserve failed to ease Wall
Street's concerns over inflation.

France extends weekend lockdown measure as Covid-19 cases increase

A third national Covid-19 lockdown is not "impossible', according to the French prime minister, who was speaking as the French government once again ruled out bringing in another nationwide confinement at the moment.


But France has imposed a weekend lockdown in the northern region around Calais. The southern city of Nice and the northern port of Dunkirk are already under the measure of Saturday-Sunday lockdowns, due to the flare-up in cases in both places.

Germany approves Astrazeneca vaccine for elderly patients

Germany's vaccine authority has backtracked on its decision to only approve the Astrazeneca vaccine for adults aged under 65.

Consumers, food services threw out 931 million tonnes of food in 2019 - UN report

An estimated 931 million tonnes of food were thrown out in 2019, according to the new Food Waste Index from the United Nations. 


That accounts for 17 percent of all food available to consumers, and it's not just a rich nation problem.

Jobless claims rise but less than expected

Australia – Attorney General takes mental health leave after denying historic rape allegations

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says there is no need for an inquiry into the historical rape allegations made against his Attorney General Christian Porter.


The allegations first came to light in 2019 when an anonymous letter was set to various members of the government, accusing Mr Porter of raping a woman in Sydney in 1988.

The woman had been in contact with the police in 2019 but died of suicide last year

Hong Kong authorities say Sinovac not to blame for patient's death

Hong Kong's health authorities say China's Sinovac vaccine is not to blame for the death of a 63 year old man, who died two days after being inoculated.
