At the moment, if the rate of infection becomes too high in any given country, travellers returning from any part of that country will have to quarantine for two weeks.

But the UK transport secretary, Grant Shapps, says now with better data they can distinguish between islands and the mainland.

UK PM Boris Johnson to override EU Withdrawal Agreement -- or even walk away with no deal

The UK is threatening to walk away from post-Brexit talks with the EU and pursue a no-deal outcome if an agreement is not struck before the European Council in October.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson had argued his government would "get Brexit done" with an "oven-ready deal," yet now says if both sides can't reconcile their differences in the coming weeks, then Britain will "accept that and move on," claiming this would be a "good outcome" for the country.

The deadline for a free-trade deal is at the end of this year.

UK: BREXIT AGREEMENT BY MID-OCTOBER, OR 'NO DEAL'

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson says if a trade agreement isn't reached with the EU by mid-October, both sides should accept a No Deal scenario and 'move on.'

A fresh round of Brexit talks starts on Tuesday.

There's concern in Brussels after reports the UK is planning legislation that could override parts of last year's Withdrawal Agreement with the EU.

Downing Street says this is contingency planning in case trade talks fail.

Former Conservative cabinet minister Michael Heseltine says the government's actions are counter-productive.
