Russia's lower house of parliament has unanimously backed sweeping constitutional changes proposed by President Vladimir Putin. Nobody abstained or voted against the reforms in their first reading. Lucy Taylor reports.

Locust Swarms Heading to Uganda

Thailand biggest mover on Democracy Index

Thailand jumped up 38 places on The Economist Intelligence Unit's 2019 Democracy Index, making the largest improvement of any country. National elections last year helped it move from "hybrid regime" to a "flawed democracy" after five years of military rule.
