Deadly flooding hits Indonesia's capital

New Year's Eve revellers waiting for fireworks were hit by torrential rain which caused the worst flooding since 2013. Rainfall three times higher than avenge has soaked the capital causing 16 deaths and destruction across the city.

India plans its third moon mission

India has announced plans for its third moon mission, just months after its last one failed to land on the lunar surface.  

India in September tried to put a rover on the moon, which would have made it only the fourth country to land on the moon, but it crash landed.

AUSTRALIA: Royal Australian Navy delivering supplies to bushfire victims

The bushfire summer continues in Australia with the defence forces now stepping in to help in the nation's south east.
Hundred of structures have been destroyed with many homes amongst them in fires stretching from Bateman's Bay south of Sydney into the east of the State of Victoria where at least 17 people are unable to be accounted for.

China's Tencent acquires 10% of Universal for almost $3.4bn

Chinese tech company Tencent has agreed to buy a 10% stake in Universal Music for $3.36 billion dollars.

 

The world's largest music company has signed global superstars such as Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish.

Uber and Postmates Sue California Over Gig Law, Claiming it as Unconstitutional


Two large companies, and competitors in the food-delivery market, have filed a complaint in California over new legislation regarding independent contractors.  Uber and Postmates allege the bill, which could force both companies to treat drivers as employees, is unconstitutional.

First Mixed-Sex Civil Partnerships In Britain


As of the 31st December, mixed-sex couples in Britain will now be allowed to enter a civil partnership.


Until now, only same-sex couples had been permitted to become civil partners. 


Civil partnerships offer almost the same rights as marriage - including entitlements for tax, property and inheritance.

Iraqi Foreign Ministry Summons US Ambassador in Baghdad

Iraq's Foreign Ministry has said it will summon the US Ambassador to Baghdad to tell him that the US Airstrikes in Iraq were "a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of Iraq".

It comes as Iraqi officials criticised Sunday's airstrikes by the US in Iraq and Syria and said they will be reconsidering their relationship with the US-led coalition.

Germanwings strike forces 180 flight cancellations

Lufthansa's low-cost carrier Germanwings has cancelled more than 180 flights as cabin crew stage a three-day strike. And it could be just the tip of the iceberg. UK TEEN FOUND GUILTY OVER FALSE RAPE CLAIM

A British woman has been found guilty of lying about being gang-raped by a group of Israeli men while she was on holiday in Cyprus.

UK GOVT TO REPLACE CAP FUNDING AFTER BREXIT

UK farmers are to receive £3bn ($3.93bn) in funding to support the industry as Britain leaves the EU.

Brexit means Britain will leave the Common Agricultural Policy direct payments scheme in 2020.

The government says its support will allow agriculture to 'thrive', and it will be able to create a less bureaucratic system.

NEW YORK STEPS UP SECURITY FOR JEWISH COMMUNITIES

Mayor of New York Bill de Blasio's announced security will be stepped up in Jewish areas due to the 'crisis' of rising anti-Semitic attacks.

School will also teach students how to tackle issues around hate.

On Saturday at least five people were injured in a mass stabbing at a rabbi's house in New York State.

Bill de Blasio had already announced extra police patrols in parts of Brooklyn with large Jewish populations.
