US President Trump says he will impose fresh sanctions on Iran on Monday.

Tensions between the US and Iran are high after the Trump administration accused the Islamic Republic of shooting down an unmanned US drone.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has travelled to Saudi Arabia for talks about how to counter what the State Department describes as "malign Iranian influence in the region".

Trump says he Halted Strikes on Iran

President Trump says he gave a last-minute order to stand down from striking Iran on Thursday. 

The strikes were intended to respond to the shooting down of a US drone earlier in the day.

EU says Brexit withdrawal agreement not up for renegotiation

The presidents of the European Council and the European Commission have reiterated that the UK cannot renegotiate the Brexit withdrawal agreement.

There are calls for a UK government minister to resign, after he grabbed a female protester and pushed her out of an event.

Mark Field says his reaction was 'instinctive', and he was worried the woman could have been armed.

Greenpeace is accusing him of assault, and police say they are investigating.

EU climate change goal blocked at European Council summit

An EU climate change goal to reach net zero emissions by 2050 has been blocked at the European Council summit. 

A unanimous decision was needed by the 28 member states in order for the proposal to pass. 

But four countries vetoed the plan saying it would hurt their coal-dependent economies.

Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt to face run-off for UK leader

Either former UK foreign Secretary Boris Johnson or current UK foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt will become the UK's next Prime Minister, with that decision now firmly in the hands of some 160 thousand UK Conservative party members.


It comes after several rounds of voting by Conservative MPs to whittle candidates down to just two.

UN Human Rights Commissioner to Venezuela
