Russian Pleads Guilty to Spying

Russian spy Maria Butina has pleaded guilty to acting as an illegal foreign agent in the United States.

The 30-year-old gathered intelligence from a right-wing political network.

Far Right Extremism on the rise according to new UK data


New data shows an increase in the number of referrals to the UK government's anti-extremism programme, amid concerns over the rise of the far-right. 


Over the last year such referrals rose 36 per cent while those for Islamist extremism dropped 14%. From London, Phoebe Hopson reports.

May confirms she will not seek to take the Conservatives into next scheduled election


British Prime Minister Theresa May has said she does not intend to lead her Conservative Party into the next scheduled general election, even though she might wish to do so. 


Speaking as she held talks with European Union leaders in Brussels, Theresa May confirmed what she had told MPs ahead of a vote of confidence in her leadership Wednesday, triggered by Brexiteers in her own party. 


Mrs May is trying to win concessions over the backstop proposals that deal with the Irish border issue in the  Brexit Withdrawal Agreement.    However she told reporters that she did not intend to go into the new general scheduled general election as leader.

UN chief warns of "suicidal" climate failing

The United Nations Secretary-General has warned that failing to reach
climate change targets would be "suicidal" for the planet.

Antonio Guterres was speaking at the end of the UN climate change
summit in Poland where negotiators are trying to reach a deal to
reduce emissions.

Second Canadian citizen detained in China

A second Canadian citizen has been detained in China as tensions between the two countries grows.

Last week Canada arrested the chief financial officer of telecoms giant Huawei, drawing sharp criticism from Beijing.

South, North Korea to hold joint railway 'launch' ceremony

South Korea has announced it will hold a ceremony in North Korea later this month to mark the launch of a joint railway project.

South Korea's Unification Ministry says the ceremony will be held just North of the inter-Korean border on December 26th.


President Moon Jae-in and leader Kim Jong-un agreed earlier this year to upgrade North Korea's railways and connect them with the South's modern system.


Next week, the two Koreas will wrap up a joint survey of North Korea's aging rail system.


But there are concerns any construction could violate international sanctions against North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

May attends Brussels summit to try to get assurances so her Brexit deal can pass

British prime minister Theresa May is taking part in a summit with EU leaders in Brussels as she tries to win changes from Europe so her Brexit deal can be supported in the UK.

She survived a vote of no confidence late on Wednesday but confirmed on her way into the Brussels summit that she won't lead the party into another election.

French police launch appeal for Strasbourg shooter

Indian girl takes father to police over unbuilt toilet

A seven-year-old girl in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu has filed a complaint with the police after her father failed to build a toilet in their home.

According to UNICEF, nearly 500 million Indians are forced to defecate in the open because of lack of access to toilets.

A new study by a team of blast injury experts finds all 25 victims studied show signs of inner ear damage

Pompeo defends Trump administration’s position on Saudi Arabia
