Ukraine imposes martial law after confrontation with Russia


Ukraine has imposed martial law for sixty days, after tensions with Russia escalated in the Black Sea. Russian forces opened fire and seized three Ukrainian vessels, wounding sailors. But Russia said it was Ukraine which had planned the provocation. Lucy Taylor reports.

British academic Matthew Hedges released from UAE jail


British academic Matthew Hedges has been released from prison in the United Arab Emirates, where he was detained on spying charges.


The UAE offered a pardon, but a spokesperson for Mr Hedges said he was 100% not a secret service operative.

MAY TO URGE MPS TO BACK BREXIT DEAL

UK Prime Minister Theresa May is calling for MPs to back her Brexit deal, warning of 'division and uncertainty' if they don't.

She'll address the House of Commons later after EU leaders backed the agreement with London on Sunday.

Mrs May has to win a parliamentary vote on the deal, which is expected in December.

Dozens of her own MPs are currently expected to vote against it.

French finance minister to count the cost of fuel protests

France's finance minister is due to meet retailers and insurers later on to work out how much the ongoing fuel protests are hurting the economy.

The latest round of the yellow vest protest movement turned violent this weekend as police clashed with demonstrators on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

AUSTRALIA: Formerly conjoined twins leave hospital

Former conjoined Bhutanese twins Nima and Dawa have left a Melbourne hospital as individual "cheeky" girls, weeks after life-changing surgery to separate them.
The 15-month-old sisters, who had spent their lives joined at the torso, have left Royal Children's Hospital in a pram with their mother, after successful surgery on November 9.

Indian police struggle to retrieve body of killed American missionary

A police team has been trying to explore ways to retrieve the body of American missionary John Allen Chau who was killed by a protected tribe in India's North Sentinel island.

Fishermen who took Mr. Chau to the remote island claim they saw the tribe burying his body on the beach.

India marks ten years since Mumbai 26/11 terrorist attacks

Mumbai is marking ten years since the terrorist attacks of 26th November 2008, which left 166 dead in India's financial capital.

Russia opens fire on Ukrainian naval vessels

Russian border services have detained three Ukrainian naval vessels off the coast of Crimea.


The Russian authorities accuse the Ukrainian navy of failing to notify them about their journey through the Kerch Strait, a passage separating Crimea from the Russian mainland.

Tear gas fired, US border crossing closed after migrants storm past Mexican riot police

US agents patrolling the country's border with Mexico have fired tear gas at hundreds of migrants trying to cross the border.


The migrants stormed past Mexican riot police in a bid to reach the American side of the crossing at Tijuana.

New report by U.S. gov't scientists warns of climate change risks

A new report by U.S. government scientists warns that changes to the global climate will cause major disruption to economies around the world, in the coming decades.


The report predicts that in the U.S. alone, climate change could deliver a 10% hit to the U.S. GDP by the end of this century.

Still No Agreement on Gibraltar

CAR's Yekatom claims he was beaten and tortured during his arrest

Paris prepares for another day of fuel price protests

Another large protest against fuel prices is planned to take place in Paris tomorrow.

Two people have died and at least 500 people have been injured since the nationwide demonstrations began last week.

EU Envoys Meet as Spain Threatens to Vote Against Brexit Deal
